Call for Proposals

The Maryland Workforce Association's Raising the Bar Conference is returning in 2018 to provide an opportunity for in-depth conversations and networking opportunities for workforce and educational professionals.  The Conference will be held on Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20 at Turf Valley in Ellicott City, Maryland.

Bring your challenges, ideas, and evidence-based solutions and join us as we navigate the world of workforce development and explore promising practices in developing the best workforce system in the country!

Submit a Proposal

The 2018 Raising the Bar Conference will include workshops organized around  the following tracks: 

  • Leveraging and Establishing Partnerships - including how to identify and achieve collective goals, communicating across organizational boundaries, developing effective MOUs, and resource mapping.
  • Business and Industry Engagement -- including strategies around developing regional business partnerships, managing effective sectorial strategies, providing incumbent worker training, utilizing labor and economic data to ensure successful business engagement efforts, developing and communicating career pathways, developing apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, establishing OJT agreements and identifying internship opportunities.
  • Targeted Services to all Marylanders - including strategies for recruiting and retaining out-of-school youth, strengthening career development efforts, getting clients on a career pathway, effective use of industry-recognized credentials, promoting literacy/numeracy gains, addressing services to the re-entry population, new Americans, veterans, older workers and persons with disabilities     
  • Building an Innovative Workforce System- including hiring and supervising workforce staff, stress management, motivating clients, integrated case management, securing non-restricted funding sources, understanding Labor Market Information, measuring and tracking performance goals, effectively using O’Net, outreach strategies to bring more people in the doors, social media strategies
  • Developing a New Generation of Leaders  including enhancing the leadership abilities of existing staff, succession planning, building internal capacity of workforce organizations.

Raising the Bar does not provide monetary or other compensation for facilitators.

If you have a proposal that you would like to submit and are not sure where it fits, submit it and if it is accepted, we will find a track for it.

Workshop proposals must be submitted online no later than December 18, 2017
